Chichester Cathedral
Before my trip to Chichester Cathedral, I’d only been there a couple of times to see plays that were part of the Chichester Festival. I knew that there was a Cathedral, but there never was any time to visit it.
The walk from the Arundel to the train station and the trip from Arundel to Chichester was very pleasant. And, unlike, Arundel the train station is in the town and is a short walk from the cathedral.
The Cathedral was founded in 1075 as a replacement for the Saxon cathedral at Selsey that was founded in 681 by St Wilfrid. It is considered to be an ‘English’ cathedral in that it’s a mix and match of different styles. And, like most medieval cathedrals over the years, suffered damage, rebuilt and in the 13th century had significant changes and several restorations over the intervening centuries.
It is also the home to many great works of modern art. Personally, I don’t think that they work within the cathedral but go there yourself and make your own judgement.
Here are a few photos of the cathedral.
